Functionalized slides are made to have specific functions or activities by modifying or coating the glass surface with specific chemicals. These functionalization treatments can give the slide different properties, such as enhanced interaction with biomolecules, cells, or other samples, to improve experimental efficiency. Common functionalized slides include:
Biomolecule fixation slides: coated with specific antibodies, proteins, DNA probes, etc., capable of fixing or capturing specific molecules for immunofluorescence, ELISA, in situ hybridization and other experiments.
Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Slides: chemically modified to render the surface of the slide hydrophilic or hydrophobic for controlling the adhesion and distribution of cells or biomolecules.
Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) slides: surface-modified self-assembled monomolecular layers that provide highly controllable functionality and are widely used in surface science and biosensors.
Nano-functionalized slides: the surface of a slide is modified by nanomaterials such as gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, etc. to enhance its physical, chemical or biological activity.
Example of functionalized processing:
We can provide treatment of slides made of glass, PMMA and PS. Functional groups that can be modified include epoxy, carboxyl, amine, thiol and streptavidin.
