PDMS is the primary material used in the fabrication of microfluidic chips, with the main method being replica molding. Replica molding necessitates well-formed, plastic-molded PDMS chip molds. PMMA molds and aluminum molds, manufactured using mechanical processing methods, are advantageous for producing large-sized, high aspect ratio channels. They exhibit greater strength compared to silicon and SU8 molds, can be reused multiple times, and offer a cost-effective solution.
PMMA and aluminum molds are known for their simplicity and cost-effectiveness in preparing PDMS chip molds. They can be precisely fabricated using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling machines, and their surfaces possess some hydrophobicity, facilitating easy demolding of PDMS material. These molds are suitable for producing microchannel structures with a width greater than 0.1 millimeters and an error control within approximately ±20 micrometers. They represent an ideal choice for applications where moderate precision requirements are coupled with cost-effectiveness and efficient fabrication.
